February Contest

This is the sixth of many contests celebrating Wright Flyer Online. These contests are open to all students between the grades of first through eighth. The grade categories are as follows:

1st through 3rd
4th through 6th
7th and 8th

There will be a first, second and third prize awarded for each grade group.


Read the directions and rules below for this month's contest. We hope you enjoy participating in these activities.

Recyclable Wright Flyer Model Contest

Contest Description

Use the black and white outline of the Wright Flyer(Scroll down a bit to locate it.) as a model only to help you design an accurate model. Then use ordinary household items that are recyclable and create your own three-dimensional model of the Flyer. Items you use must be recyclable (like aluminum cans, cardboard or cardboard boxes, newspaper, etc.).

Directions

1. Print the black and white outline of the Flyer as a reference.

2. Make a "blueprint of what your model will look like and label what recyclable materials you will use.

3. Gather the recyclable materials to use to construct your model.

4. Build your recyclable Flyer model.

5. Take a picture of it and send it in. You can take a digital photo of it and e-mail or scan a photo into your computer and e-mail or simply take a photograph and scan it in and send us the file or simply use postal mail to submit it. Sorry, photos will not be returned.

For E-mail Submission:

In the e-mail message include:

  • Your name

  • Your grade

  • Your e-mail address

  • Send your art work (saved as a gif, pict, tiff, or jpeg) as an attachment to your e-mail.

All entries must be e-mailed no later than February 28th, 1999.

6. For Postal Submission:

On the back of the paper include the following information:

  • Your name

  • Your grade

  • Your return address

Put it in an envelope and mail it to the address listed below:

All entries must be postmarked no later than February 28th, 1999.

Judging Criteria

All entries will be judged on accurate recreation of the parts of the Flyer, the use of recyclable material and creative use of materials.

Please note:

All judgments are final and winners will be notified via mail, and the winning entries and entrants names will be posted on this web site.
