Adventures in the Principles of Flight
Hi! My name is Robert W. Maier. I am a technology
teacher at a high school in eastern Pennsylvania. This year we chose to
investigate the principles of flight.
We started with paper airplanes, went to rubber band
powered models, made some rockets, and then the project took flight. We
found a glider in a Harpers Airplane book published in 1913. Two classes
of about 18 kids have gotten quite far in about eight weeks of work with
the very generous help of the aerospace museum, Mr. Rick Young, and Mr.
Paul Dees. Next year we will be covering the wings of our glider in preparation
to test fly it.
We also will be building an anthropometric aviator
with video sight to test the glider after we kite it.
