Sharon Camp's Class

We had a sunny, bright Florida afternoon for our test flights.
There was a slight breeze blowing out of the SW so the gliders had a tail
wind.

The groups standardized our flights by:

  • starting at a certain point on the grass.
  • using a bent elbow ( ear level) to toss the glider.
  • taking one step back to help increase the thrust.
  • use a slight arc to the toss- not just straight ahead.
  • holding the glider in the middle of the fuselage.
  • having the wind at your back ( tail wind).

We only flew three of the planes that followed the standards listed on the project procedures. Following the flights, we used a criteria chart to evaluate our flights and help us to make decisions on the redesigning and rebuilding our gliers. Measuring the distance was not a standard that the class had chosen, but after reading some of the other classes results, they chose to add that to the next list.

Here are some of our flight photos. You might say we had less than a picture perfect landing so it was back to the drawing board.

Thanks to all for your notes, suggestions and photos. We are learning how much we don't know about flying!! Mrs. Camp's class
