Hi everyone!
We redesigned our airplanes a third time and here are our results.
We used our standardized launching device ( an upside-down
xerox box and a rubber band). Our top results were from Team 4. This comsists
of B.J., Savannah, Anthony, and Lydia with a startling flight distance
of 22'6". The wing design was what you would call a stealth wing. In a
few days we plan to go outside and test our planes with a free-throw launching
plan.
Out-door, Free-throw Launching Plan
Here are our outdoor results.
The same group won as with the indoor results for the third redesign.
It was B.J., Savannah, Anthony, and Lydia. Their flight was an amazing
distance of 48'! Guess the wind helped them! This was our final redesign
and the highest score.
More later,

Hey guys! What's up?
After we redesigned our planes, we came up with some interesting results:
First I will explain our flight procedure. It was
the same as last time. We launched a rubber band from an upside down xerox
box. The angle was the same for each plane, about 15 degrees. The thrust
was also the same. Lastly, The end of the box provided a stop line for
the planes. We went from our longest flight distance of 7' 2" to an amazing
22' 6". That's over three times as big as the original result! The winning
team consists of Lydia, Savannah, Anthony, and BJ. Since we seem to be
a little ahead, we decided to redesign one more time. We also had a questions
for the people at NASA. Could you explain center of gravity in 6th grade
terms?
Happy flying,
Mr. Dutweiler and Class.
Original Planes
Hello everyone, just wanted to report our results
. After a brief discussion we decided to launch with a rubber band from
an upside down xerox box. I have included pictures to illustrate this.
Using the box allowed us to standardized the launch
in several ways. First, the angle was the same for each launch(approximately
15 degrees). Secondly the thrust provided by the rubber band was the same.
Lastly the end of the box provided a "stop line" for the pilots when they
charged the rubber band. Each member of each team launched their plane
once and we took the longest distance of each team. The team of Travis,
Scott, Justin and Jessica had the longest distance of 7' 2". Next thing
on our agenda is to redesign them.
Happy Flying,
Mr. Dutweiler and class
