Me encanta ver un chat en español, ya que enseño español a K-8th y quiero que mis estudiantes participan en chats en español. (I am so happy to see a chat in Spanish because I teach Spanish to students in K-8th and I want them to participate in bilingual chats.) Ellos prepararon unas preguntas en inglés (tambien enseño Technologia y cuanto más NASA que puedo) asique estoy traduciendo algunos al español para que la respuesta sea en español. (They prepared some questions in English (I also teach Technology and as much NASA as I can) so I am translating some to Spanish so that the response will be in Spanish.) Gracias!

Hi Teresa. To be an astronaut, you need to concentrate on your studies. You don't really need to study an specific field. They have several categories that you can go into as an astronaut. check out the nasa sites for astronaut information

Hola, Victor. La temperatura del Shuttle varia dependiendo de el lugar donde se mide. Las partes mas calientes suben a temperaturas alrededor de 2900 grades farenheit. Las partes que no ven tanto calor suelen estar frias -- mas o menos 1600 grados

Hi Terri. We have several exciting new programs coming into the arc jets. We've been doing testing for X-37 -- that's our big customer for now. Next week, we'll be testing some new methods of attaching blankets to spacecraft -- this should be a very interesting test.

Krysral, En high school reconoci que los maestros tienen mucho que ver en hacer las clases interesantes. En jr high, a mi tambien me aburria mucho las ciencias -- nunca hubiera imaginado entonces que yo trabajaria en ciencias. Yo tube mucha suerte en que tube muy buenos maestros quienes hacian los temas interesantes. Muy a menudo me aburri en mis clases.

Ashley, Las mujeres antes de mi han hecho mucho. Yo no he experimentado muchas dificultades. En la universidad, muchas veces yo era la unica mujer en mis clases. Pero esto me ayudo mucho porque entonces los profesores me reconocian. Igualmente hoy en mi trabajo -- la gente se acuerda de mi y se fijan en mi por ser mujer.

Amber, a mi tambien me da "cosa" con temas de hospitales. La ciencia es un tema muy grande. A mi me encantan los animales, pero nunca podria ser veterinario porque no me gusta ver sangre

Joe, those are good schools, too. I would recommend a school that does not do only engineering so that you get a well-rounded education (that's why I like Stanford). I've been out of the education circuit for many years and haven't really kept up with what they're doing.

Terri, There is still a lot of exciting research going on into TPS. The scientists are coming up with new missions which will require more advanced TPS than what is currently in use. The big thing right now is getting TPS that will survive temperatures above 3000 degress F and still be reusable.

RE: [Joe] Imelda, Is the aerospace industry doing excellent or not so great? Especually, in the astronuatics community.I plan on joining the U.S. Air Force as an officer, are military aerospace engineers doing ok with all these military cuts.
Joe, To be honest, we're all a little nervous with all the budget cuts. I think the Air Force will do well. We do some work with them and they are testing promising materials in our facilities. I think that'd be a very fun thing to do. Although, when we do get a test program in, they are always very conscious of budget issues. If you really have your heart set on it, I think you'll do ok.
